An Unreasonable Commitment

The Jews gathered around him, saying, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly."
John 10:24

2When John heard in prison what Christ was doing, he sent his disciples 3to ask him, "Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?"
Matthew 11:2-3

While I was consulting my ENT doctor on Saturday, an interesting conversation ensued.

"Are you afraid to die?" Doc asked.

Without hesitation, I answered, "No, I am not because I am certain that if I die, I will be in heaven."

Doc continued to query, "Are you sure that there is a heaven? I don't believe that there is one and there is no such thing as heaven on earth. Have you seen heaven? How do you know?"

"I am sure that there is a heaven because I believe in God and Jesus His son," I answered, "and because I do, I am certain about about heaven and hell. I am also certain that I am going to heaven when my time comes to leave this earth."

Doc continues to be doubtful. But I am convinced.

Many people want proofs before they believe Jesus is the Son of God who came to save us. Many still do not believe after seeing the proofs (the Jews in John 10:24). Even John the Baptist asked his disciples if He was the Christ.

At my bible study fellowship last Monday, I was asked what proofs have I found in reading John 10 that show that Jesus is the Son of God. I shared that I did not need any proof because the Holy Spirit convicted me of this truth long ago. Yes, once we allow the Holy Spirit to convict us, we know that we know that we know that He is Christ, the Messiah, our Savior.

Jesus said in John 20:29
"Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

Dear beloved, we must have an attitude of unreasonable commitment in our belief that Jesus is the Messiah and Savior of the world....a belief that needs no reasoning because it is a belief based on the Holy Spirit's conviction.

God bless.

Steven
