Then after this He said to the disciples, “Let us go to Judea again.” The disciples said to Him, “Rabbi, lately the Jews sought to stone You, and are You going there again?”
John 11:7-8
Have you ever told God that He should not do certain things?
I did. So did Jesus' disciples. We all thought that we knew better.
As you read John 11:8, do you wonder what were in the mind of the disciples? I gathered the following possibilities:
1. The disciples truly meant it for the good of Jesus; they wanted to protect Jesus from the Jews who hated Him and were going to harm Him.
2. They were afraid of accompanying Jesus into Judea where they feared that they would be stoned by the Jews.
3. They thought that Jesus could not see the danger that lurked ahead and so sought to "remind" Him.
4. They forgot that He was the Son of God.
Whatever the possibility may be, like the disciples, often times I thought that I knew better than God. I forget that He cares for me and has a good plan for me, and I lack the trust that He knows best!
Faith, I learnt, is not intellectual understanding. Faith is a deliberate commitment to the Person of Jesus Christ, even when I can’t see the way ahead. Faith in Jesus demands that I lay it all out at His feet and let Him do as He pleases.
Faith does not need me to think about the "consequence"; it needs only my total surrender to Him.
Indeed, "... faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." (Hebrews 11:1)
Don't think about faith. Simply believe!
God bless.
Steven
