" ...... the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."
James 1:3-5
The dictionary explains "perseverance" as:
1. Steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.
2. Theology - continuance in a state of grace to the end, leading to eternal salvation.
My attention is drawn to the second definition .... perseverance is the continuance in grace, believing in Christ, which leads to eternal salvation.
Throughout the new testament, perseverance is mentioned many times.
We are directed to persevere, as suffering produces perseverance and then character (Romans 5:3-4).
We are to run the race marked out for us with perseverance (Hebrews 12:1).
We are to let perseverance finish its work so that we may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (James 1:4)
We are to add perseverance to self control and thereafter, godliness (2Peter 1:5-7).
Revelations 2:2,19 tell us that the Lord will specifically "know" our perseverance along with our love, faith and hard work.
Let us dare to persevere because of the grace of God.
God bless.
Steven
