"She has done a beautiful thing to me."
Mark 14:6
Mark 14:6
Oswald Chambers remarked that "If what we call love doesn’t take us beyond ourselves, it is not really love."
The woman in Mark 14:6 did something that was not accepted during her time. Different people then saw different angles to her did (Mark 14:3-4).
Some saw the earthly value of the perfume - it costs a handsome amount (more than a year's wages).
Others thought that Jesus did not deserve the perfume ("Why waste this perfume (on Jesus)?"
Yet there were those who were critical and judgmental (They rebuked her harshly.)
What the woman did seemed so useless. But Jesus did not think so.
Jesus put it in perspective ("Leave her alone ... she has done a beautiful thing for me.")
True love for Jesus drives us to do things for Him that the world does not understand. When we begin to do something for God not because we felt dutiful or in expectation of a reward, but simply because we love Him, we begin to understand and demonstrate true love.
The woman in Mark 14 did just that. Unknowingly, she anointed Jesus for His death. Did she expect anything in return? I don't think so, she did it because she loved Jesus.
Did Satan ever taunt you by asking if you were of any use to Jesus?
Have you been driven to do something for the Lord simply because of your love for Him? Decide now, how you will react when that happens!
God bless.
Steven
