Do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven —Luke 10:20
Last week, I gave my thought on my unworthiness. I will continue with my learning about my usefulness.
It is human that we often feel close to God when we have "achieved" something for Him, especially something "great" spiritually.
The Lord reminds me, as He reminded His disciples, that I should not rejoice even when the spirits are subject to me. This is especially poignant to me as I have cast out demons before and I have seen miraculous answers to my prayers. The spirits and elements had obeyed when I commanded them in Jesus Name.
Now, what then did Jesus mean when He said that we should instead be rejoicing because our names are written in heaven.
What really counts is not what I do for Him but what God does in and through me. Only when I have the right relationship with Him through salvation and sanctification, will I ever qualify to be useful for His kingdom. Praise the Lord that my name is written in heaven because of the saving grace of God - I can count myself to be usable by God!
Many believers (and churches too) put emphasis on service. They "serve" the church, the congregation, the poor and others earnestly. Yet many burn out and others felt that they have not been truly useful.
Never serve just because there is a need. Instead, serve only when there is a lead (from the Holy Spirit).
My usefulness is realized only when my direction and guidance come from God Himself. My relationship with my Abba Father is not measured by my usefulness. But when I am sensitive and obedient to His guidance and when my relationship with Him is intimate, I become useful wherever and whenever He chooses to work through me.
Get close to Him so that we can be used truly by Him for His glory.
God bless.
Steven
