" It is He who, coming after me .... whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose ..... He must increase, but I must decrease." John 1:27 (NKJV), John 3:30 (NKJV)
Oswald Chambers said, "Jesus cannot come and do His work in me as long as there is anything blocking the way, whether it is something good or bad."What he meant is that until I come to the full realization of my unworthiness before Him, He cannot do His work in and through me. I may be even doing something "good", such as serving in a church ministry, helping someone in need and even leading a cell group, but yet as long as I think that I can do it myself, Jesus stops His work.
I stop God from coming into my life whenever I consider I am able to make it by myself and thus do not need to depend on Him. But God is there whenever I realize that I can only depend on Him.
To grow spiritually, I must lose my self-awareness and gain Christ-awareness. As John understood, He must increase and I must decrease.
Christ-awareness brings about repentance, renewal and restoration to my life.
Repentance still has its place in a born-again child's life. It is not about going over and over again on an old sin, fearing that God has not forgiven me. It is about knowing deeply how worthless I am without Christ. It is about losing myself and gaining Him.
When I go before God, I must go with the righteous state that Christ has placed upon me (2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV). Yet, I need to go before Him with the Spirit-given knowledge that I am absolutely helpless by myself, so that I can apply my total dependency in Jesus Christ.
Let's deliberately lose self-awareness and seek to gain the awareness of Christ in our life.
God bless.
Steven
