O my soul, be still and know that He is God

For many weeks, despite claiming on the words of Ps 4:8, I still had problem falling asleep and yet woke up at around 4am regularly. I tried to get back to sleep but simply could not. I lay awake, waiting for the sun to rise.

During those times, I prayed many prayers, claimed various verses in Psalm relating to peaceful sleep but to no avail. As the days went by, the poor quality of my sleep affected me. I sought our Abba Father and asked Him to tell me what I have to learn through this episode.

Then God revealed to me my problem. He told me, "Be still and know that I am your God." (Ps 46:9-11).

During this period of insomnia, I kept trying to pray myself to sleep, presenting my petitions for myself, my family, cell members .... etc. But He wanted me just to be still before Him, especially when we are facing difficulties. Being still before Him is to fully trust His ability to lead us.

Over the last few nights, I laid still before my loving Father. I did not make any petition. I did not speak. I simply acknowledged Him and rested in His arms. He cradled me to sleep again. Praise the Lord, I slept well again.

I learned a valuable lesson. If we keep praying without having time to be still before Him, we seek the gift more than the Giver. While I fully believe that He delights to listen and to answer our prayers, He delights more in our fellowship and acknowledgment of His Lordship.

I have learned to find time to simply be still before Him and acknowledge Him as my God, Lord and Savior. Be still and know that He is God!

God bless.

Steven
