". . . do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on" — Matthew 6:25
In his article, Our Careful Unbelief, Oswald Chambers says that "the greatest word of Jesus to His disciples is abandon."
Indeed, Jesus taught that it is "the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word.." (Matthew 13:22). That, I believe, is the main reason that many of us struggle in our faith walk with God.
Occasionally, some issues keep me awake at night. They are usually worries of this life that try to rob me of the peace of the abundant life that God has promised.
Satan does not need to lift a finger to harm us if we continue to allow worries to choke God's word.
I have learned not to entertain them anymore. When they come, I quote God's promises. I remind myself that His word is truth and my thoughts are not. I do it consistently and constantly and now, it has become a instinctive defense against negative thoughts.
No wonder Jesus asks His children not to worry about our daily needs. His word truly, is abandon ... Let's abandon our life and worries to Him. Only when we lose them, will we gain abundant life in Him.
God bless.
Steven
