"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—" Ephesians 2:8
"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
I start this year's blog by touching on the amazing grace of God. In fact, this will be my new theme for my sharing for this season.
Jesus Christ did not suffer, die and resurrect for God. He did it for me! What would have happened if He did not do so? ... we would have burned in hell for eternity.
But God demonstrated His own love for us. He punished His Son, who has no sin, for all the sins that I carry. By Jesus' dedicated act of love for me, I am redeemed and reconciled with God. I have eternal life. Hallelujah!
It is a simple and yet profound act and fact. But I must remind myself that I will not take this for granted. It would be easy to forget because I was "converted" close to 40 years ago. I must commit myself to be "continuously converted" (Matthew 18:3 NKJV). I must decide and act to become more like Jesus daily.
Chris Tomlin rendered an updated version of John Newton's hymn Amazing Grace. The chorus added by Chris rings true for me:
My Chains are gone; I've been set free
My God my Savior has ransomed me.
And like a flood His mercy reigns,
Unending love, Amazing Grace.
God bless.
Steven
