"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me."
John 10:27
I have been asked many times how do I hear God speaking to me.
Jesus said that we are His sheep, given by His Father and no one can snatch us out of His hands (John 10:28-29). As our Shepherd, Jesus constantly calls out to us. The Holy Spirit helps by making our spirit sensitive to hearing His voice.
Then how come there are many who say that they are unable to hear God?
Like many other believers, I have developed the habit of hearing God's promptings, guidance and loving words. I did spent many years practicing the "listening" part during my prayer and quiet time.
While God welcomes and even delights in me bringing my petitions to Him daily, I find it so very crucial, that I must spend time listening and not just asking.
This process includes the cultivation of the constant reading of God's Word. It is after all, His love letter to those who believe in Him. 2 Tim 3:16 says it all,
16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
So, don't be surprised if you do not hear God's voice if you have not been diligently spending time in quietness to listen and to delve into His word.
But if you do, you will be continually amazed how clear His voice is to you. Remember, we are His sheep.
Let's do out part to hear when our Shepherd calls.
God bless.
Steven
