We had no choice - we inherited sin!
When Adam chose to disobey God, he laid claim to the right to himself. Sin's core is not immorality or wrongdoing but the idea that "I am my own god" that resulted in man's separation from God. This is the core nature of sin.
I have this heredity which makes me unholy, and I cannot ever be holy on my own. So, if all Jesus Christ can do is tell me that I must be holy, it would be useless.
But praise be to God that He sent Christ "to appear once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself." Hebrews 9:26-28
What does this actually mean to me?
He puts His heredity of holiness into me, imputing His righteousness for my sinful nature so that the heredity of sin is eradicated completely! This is redemption by His mercy and grace. Hallelujah.
I am regenerated; pure and righteous before God because of what Jesus did for me. It makes me forever grateful to Him.
