Am I my own god?

I am reading Oswald Chamber's Utmost for His Highest devotional and is compelled to share it.

He highlighted that God did not punish the human race for one man's sin, but that the nature of sin, that is, "my claim to my right to myself", entered into the human race through that one man. The nature of sin is not immorality and wrongdoing, but the nature of self-realization which leads us to say, "I am my own god."

Satan fell because he wanted to be like or equal to God. In the same way, he wants man to make that claim along with him. We inherited sin, we have no choice. But praise be to God that He sent Jesus so that through Him, we are redeemed from the possibility of eternal damnation through the heredity of sin. God does not hold us responsible for this heredity and He neither condemns us because of it.

We are condemned only when we reject Jesus Christ after knowing that He came to deliver us from this heredity of sin. John 3:19 says "This is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light..."

I thank God that " Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.
" Rom 8:1-2.

We are set free from the heredity of sin and are free from condemnation. Let us be very careful not to
claim our right to our self for in doing so, we become our own god.

God bless.

Steven
