"However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you... "
Luke 10:20
The word rejoice is almost associated in positive phrases entirely throughout the new testament text. There is only one verse that says, "do not rejoice"; that which is found in the passage above.
Last week, I shared about my learning on right and wrong burdens. I shared that there are certain "burdens" that God has put upon me and I work towards fulling them.
While willing and wanting to complete those tasks, I want to remind myself that I shall not rejoice when I successfully achieve these "spiritual successes".
It is one thing to complete God's assignment. It is yet another to rejoice that I (yes, capitalized and in bold) have been successful. My brother, Jesus, clearly tells me that I should not rejoice even when the spirits are subjected to me, but that I am His (Luke 10:20). I must seek the Giver and not the gifts, the Builder and not the buildings, Abba Father and not a religious god-head!
And so, I shall rejoice for the Lord is good, for all that He has done for me on and beyond the cross. I shall ask Abba Dad to help me not to rejoice in my spirituality.
God bless.
Steven
