2 Cor 5:6-10
6Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. 7We live by faith, not by sight. 8We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 9So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 10For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad. Not service, not sacrifice but our daily focus on the Conductor of our life is the most important and primary goal of the redeemed.
Making it our goal to please Him requires deliberate effort and determination in our walk with the Lord.
Oswald Chambers in his devotional article, "The Servant's Primary Goal", said that " It requires a conscious decision and effort to keep our primary goal constantly in front of us. It means holding ourselves to the highest priority year in and year out; not making our first priority to win souls, or to establish churches, or to have revivals, but seeking only "to be well pleasing to Him."
My attention was particularly drawn to Oswald's warning that we could allow the thoughts and acts of very legitimate and seemingly God endeavors to take our attention from seeking only to be well pleasing to Him. I reflected on this and soon realize that it is so very easy for us to be distracted from simply focusing upon the very reason for our existence; we are made for His pleasure.
In this day and age, we have so many things that we need to do. Many of such things are "for the Lord", and are so very "proper". We can become so obsessed with such works that we loose the primary goal of simply offering our daily focus Him.
This week, I would like to encourage us all to keep our focus on Jesus daily. Make the effort to put Him into every moment that we breathe. Only then, will be receive the strength and wisdom to do what we are called to do.
Let's make it a goal to please Him.
God bless.
Steven
