We are all familiar with the records of Jesus walking on water. The book of Matthew has the most detailed description (Matt 14:22-33).
For as many times that I have read the passage, I look at it as telling me, amongst other things, Jesus walked supernaturally, Peter drowned because he was afraid, the other disciples thought that Jesus was a ghost, they had little faith ....
Little did I realize that God has a more important lesson to tell us. Jesus himself demonstrated that, but I missed it (perhaps like a number of you missed it too). Then some time ago, an Indian pastor preached on this passage and gave me an awesome revelation. I want to share this with you.
Yes, Jesus did walk supernaturally on the water. It was not calm waters he walked on. The record said that there was a storm raging, that' s why he reached out toward his disciples who were struggling in the boat and were afraid.
Then there was Peter. Always the gung-ho one, he asked the Lord to bid him to walk on water too. I am sure the other 11 must have been cynical about Peter..."there he goes again, he wants to be like Jesus..."
But the Lord bid Peter to walk on water and he did.....supernaturally. This is the revelation that I got; Peter did not walk on calm waters. He walked on the same ragging waters that caused the disciples to fear. He walked on (and over) the storm like Jesus did. Never mind that Peter drowned when he took his eyes off Jesus. The Lord already demonstrated a most important truth. Here it is...
Jesus gives us the supernatural power TO WALK ON THE STORMS OF OUR LIFE ! Just like Peter did, we can walk on the ragging waters. And as long as we keep our eyes upon Jesus, we walk OVER the ragging waters. The storm is below us henceforth. We can walk on top of the problems with supernatural power given by the Lord. God is awesome !
As long as we keep our eyes upon Him, we will never drown. Hallelujah, the Lord is good indeed.
So, I have learned and I hope you will too - let's dare to keep focused upon Jesus and walk on the storms for the Lord has given us His supernatural power to do so.
God bless.
Steven
