Jehovah Nissi - The LORD is my Banner!
The first time that God was revealed as Jehovah Nissi was when the Israelites were fighting the Amalekites (see Ex 17:8-16) at a placed called Rephidim. As long as Moses held up God's staff in his hands, Joshua's army was winning. But when Moses let his hands down due to his weariness, the Amalekites were winning. It became clear that as long as the staff of God in Moses hands was lifted high towards God, the Israelite army prevailed. So Aaron and Hur supported Moses hands, lifting the staff of God high and Israel completely defeated the Amalekites. Moses built an altar and called it "The LORD is my Banner" or Jehovah Nissi.
What is a banner? It can be described as an ensign, a signal or rallying pole or something simply lifted up.
What is the significance for us as children of God to know that He is Jehovah Nissi, our Banner? MUCH!
In our daily battles, let us raise our hands high in worship, in reverence to and in trust of our Abba Father. Such an action declares our belief that He is in control as we submit our will to Him.
If you have a challenging situation that you are facing right now, be it a concern of losing your job, or a lost in your investment or a family situation, let us raise God's Banner and let God do His work. Just as when Moses did that resulting in victory on Israel's side, so it will be for us. Why? Because when we do that, we are declaring our dependence on God to fight the battle for us and deliver the victory to us. He will.
So, may I implore you to raise God's banner over your situation, right now and always. Lift your hands high up in worship and let our LORD be our Banner - He is Jehovah Nissi !
