Step right into the period of the Kings.
I am committed to studying and sharing on Kings. I believe that there is a lot to learn from the Bible if we open our hearts to the precious book of God's words.
The two books of Kings traced the history of Israel from the time David became king in 1010 B.C. and till when Judah fell to Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians in 586 B.C. The purpose of 1 Kings is to contrast the lives of those who live for God and those who refuse to do so. 2 Kings is to demonstrate the fate that awaits all who refuse to make God their true leader.
Let's begin our exploration and study with 1 Kings. The key people include David, Solomon, Rehoboam, Jeroboam, Elijah, Ahab and Jezebel in 1 Kings.
The setting for the period was that the once great nation of Israel had turned into a land divided, physically and spiritually. The people, like in the period of the judges, were not open to advice, because their minds were closed. If they had sought advice, they would heed only if it reinforced the decision they had already made, or if presented an easier path to take. It epitomised the human nature to reject help and to do things "our" way. As wise as Solomon was, he took many pagan wives and concubines who eventually turned his heart away from God. His son, Rehoboam, who succeeded him as king listened to foolish advice that led to devastating results.
1 Kings records David's death, Solomon's reign, the division of the kingdom and Elijah's ministry.
My sharing on 1 King 1 starts in my next posting on 22nd Oct. It is my prayer that we all can learn together, sharing our thoughts and what God has to teach us with one another so that we can encourage and strengthen each other.
Journey with me and learn together as we explore the Book of the Kings.
God bless.
Steven
