Synopsis
Joshua was very old and knew that he was going to pass on soon. He summoned the people and gave one final farewell message to them. The message was a consistent one..."Be strong, obey the Lord, God had fulfilled all His promises, do not stray from Him."
Major Verses
V6-13 - Joshua reminded the nation of 3 areas of importance: (1) to follow God's laws, (2) not to be associated with the pagans, and (3) not to intermarry with the pagans. He had to remind them because these temptations were sitting right in their backyard as they did not drive them out of the Promised Land in the first place.
What I learnt
We must be very aware of our surroundings and association and our weaknesses. With that clear understanding, we can then form a strategy to overcome the temptations. The bible instructs us to "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (James 4:7). Submitting ourselves to God also means not to purposefully put ourselves in compromising situations. Resisting needs us to know where we can be weak and thus attacked.
Joshua lived an exemplary life of one who was absolutely faithful to God. He left a legacy for us all to follow.
Summary
God is faithful to us. He keeps His promises and fulfills each of them. We have to play our part to be faithful to Him. And following Joshua's words, we need to "be very strong; be careful to obey all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, without turning aside to the right or to the left."
